OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Training

   Bloodborne pathogen training must be provided by employers to protect their employees from infectious disease that can be transferred through the blood that the workers come in contact with. This is established by having an bloodborne virus policy presented in some form as to provide a way to document, review and updat the policy annually to ensure the safety of the workers. Employers must ensure that a system is in place to provide the proper tools and work procedures  to help isolate or remove their chance of contact with bloodborne pathogens. This can be accomplished by providing the proper personal protective equipment and the appropriate vaccinations and an emergency plan in the event that a worker may become exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

Proper bloodborne pathogen training must be provided at the start of employment and reviewed on an annual basis as to the OHSA regulations on what standard practice to follow and what to do if an exposure to bloodborne pathogens were to take place.

Employees must also maintain medical and training records of their employees on an on going basis and record any and all incidents or near misses within the guideline of the bloodborne virus policy.
